MALIBU VOLUNTEERS ON PATROL

The Malibu Volunteers On Patrol (“VOP”) team members serve the City of Malibu, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (“LASD”) and the community. While VOP team members act as proud representatives of the community, the VOP team’s primary objective is to act as an additional set of “eyes and ears” for the LASD and the City, notifying the appropriate agency of any suspicious activities, crimes in progress, dangerous circumstances and safety concerns (such as fires and traffic accidents). VOP members assist in crime prevention through their proactive and vigilant neighborhood patrols and critical facilities checks and by presenting a highly visible and readily identifiable uniformed presence. VOP’s also consistently provide assistance to law enforcement, fire and emergency services agencies by performing non-hazardous duties, such as traffic control at accidents, fires and other major incidents. This allows deputies, fire fighters and other emergency service personnel to handle more urgent calls for service in the community.  As residents of Malibu, VOP team members are uniquely aware of community safety concerns and issues making the team an invaluable resource to LASD and the City.
